For this design project, the purpose was to better understand the animal I had selected.
I selected a photograph of a toucan and explored the different areas of art such as gestures, logos, encyclopedic, and transformation. I created thumbnail sketches for each area. one realistic,20 gesture sketches,18 logo concepts, and 9 transformation concepts. I struggled with trying to keep the silhouette of the animal consistent but had fun experimenting with principles of design for each iteration. For each concept I tried connecting them to the environment, mythology, or general understanding of the animal.
